Wilson, Gahan. EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE DUCK. New York City, NY: The Mysterious Press, 1988. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 202 pages. As New.

The author's thriller-cum-satire novel. Deluxe Edition of 26 lettered, signed, and illustrated copies. Should not be confused (and it is confusing) with the Limited Edition of 100 numbered, signed, and illustrated copies. A brilliant production by The Mysterious Press: Regular-sized volume format. Green hard boards with gilt titles embossed on spine, as issued. Text by Gahan Wilson. Matching green slipcase. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Gahan Wilson's Holmes-ian novel in the most handsome format imaginable. Written with lots of twists and turns, the book is filled with treats for intellectuals, fans of the great detective novel, and readers in general. The plot is imaginative, coherent, and riveting. The characters are fleshed out and real, with the right touches in all the right places. The hero, Enoch Bone, captures the Holmes-ian flavor and sidekick, John Weston, rocks. There is a trio of villains: "The Professor", a Moriarty for our times, "Spectrobert", a model of finessed cruelty, and "The Mandarin", a Fu Manchu with a twist. All are equally loathsome and frightening. A "must-have" title for Gahan Wilson collectors. This copy is Letter O, indicated as such on the Front Limitation Page, and is very prominently and beautifully lettered and signed in black pen by Gahan Wilson. He also drew a very elaborate illustration of the eponymous duck beside his signature. The page used for the Deluxe Edition is the same as the one for the Limited Edition. It does not explictly allude to the lettered Deluxe Edition thereby causing the kind of confusion The Mysterious Press's Limited Editions have become known for. The fact remains that the Deluxe Edition is much more scarce and therefore more collectible than the numbered Limited Edition. This title sold out upon publication. This is one of very few such signed copies still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Many copies available online have serious flaws. A rare signed copy thus. One of the finest living novelists. A flawless collectible copy. . ISBN 089296295X. $150.00
