Dorris, Michael. CLOUD CHAMBER. New York City, NY: Scribner, 1997. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 316 pages. Fine/Fine. Signed.

The author's final novel. Advance Reader's Edition of the First Hardcover Edition. "Special Signed Copy: Not For Sale" label indicated on the DJ's rear panel. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a tiny print run as a hardcover original only. There is no ISBN. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Michael Dorris' "Cloud Chamber". Until his tragic death, Michael Dorris, a member of the Modoc Tribe, was one of the most celebrated Native-American writers of the late-20th century. He was married to Louise Erdrich, herself a Native-American from another tribe, and they openly spoke of being co-authors of each other's books. All of their published books up until Dorris' sensational suicide were dedicated to each other. The cause of his suicide is well-known, and what he allegedly committed before it inexcusable, making an objective and fair appraisal of his large body of work, which nevertheless has moments of great beauty and crystalline prose, difficult at best and (perhaps) impossible at worst. An absolute "must-have" title for Michael Dorris collectors. This is a copy of the Advance Reader's Edition, and it is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the front free endpaper by Michael Dorris. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page, even though it comes from the publisher. This title is now collectible. This is one of few such signed copies of the Advance Reader's Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A scarce signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant American writers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MICHAEL DORRIS TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). $40.00
