Gorman, Greg. GREG GORMAN: VOLUME I ("GREG GORMAN: VOLUME ONE") . Ridgefield, CT: CPC Publishing, 1989. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. Unpaginated. Fine/Fine. Signed.

The photographer's breakthrough collection of celebrity portraits and male and female nudes. The true First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the Second Edition. Volume One of the landmark two-volume set. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only, each volume was published separately, ten years apart from each other, and by different publishers. The reason they nevertheless work perfectly together is that Greg Gorman maintained full creative control over the production of both. A stunningly beautiful production by Greg Gorman and Gary Johns: Oversize-volume format. A tall and thick book. Photographs by Greg Gorman. There is minimal text. Printed on thick uncoated stock paper by the legendary Rapaport Printing Company New York to the very highest standards. In pictorial DJ, which utilizes a male nude in front and a celebrity portrait on the back, and white titles on the spine, as issued. Presents Greg Gorman's finest and most representative images in the two genres that he has excelled in and established himself: The celebrity portrait and the nude. Dramatically lit black-and-white, full-page photographs of celebrities are juxtaposed with spectacular, highly erotic nudes, including the now-classic six-panel fold-out of the model Tony Ward in different Classical Sculpture-inspired, full-frontal nude poses. The celebrity portraits include Al Pacino, David Bowie, Charlie Sheen, Warren Beatty, Madonna, Rupert Everett, Pee-Wee Herman, Kim Basinger, Robin Williams, Andy Warhol, and Michael Jackson, among many others. An accomplished Hollywood and lifestyle magazine photographer who has done commercial work for HBO, Columbia Pictures, Interview Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Playboy Magazine, LIFE, and Tatler, among others, Greg Gorman's true passions are the charismatic personality of the celebrity and the chiseled perfection of the human form, as only the (his) camera can capture. This breakthrough collection offers definitive and ample proof of Greg Gorman's distinctive style and outstanding mastery of his chosen medium. A gorgeous "coffee table" book, this is a "must-have" title for Greg Gorman collectors. This presentation copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated, and inscribed in black fountain pen on the white flyleaf by the photographer: "Thanks for coming and also for your interest in my work. I hope we can do more projects together in the future. All my best, Greg Gorman 3/27/90". Gorman's handwriting is clean, flowing, and elegant. The recipient is named and was one of Greg Gorman's most important commercial clients. This title had a very small print run, went into a subsequent printing, has been out-of-print for a very long time, and is now very difficult to find in collectible condition. This is the only such signed and inscribed copy available online and is in unusually fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, an unread collector's copy with none of the usual problems this title tends to have. Gorman did not sign most copies, and those that remain available online have major flaws yet command up to $500. A rare, one-of-a-kind signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with duotone plates. One of the finest living American photographers. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER GREG GORMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1871681006. $600.00
