There is no text. Printed on thick coated stock paper in Tokyo, Japan to the very highest standards. In publisher's original shrinkwrap. Presents page after page, all of them "bleed", of Daido Moriyama's images of the fabled island, taken between 2004 and January, 2007. "I am going to Hawaii to photograph. I'm so excited, and a little anxious. I've never been there before. The idea of Hawaii has been stuck in my mind for many, many years, just as the idea of a place. I try to imagine what it is like, and I have a certain image of it, a nostalgic place, a place where time has stopped. Hawaii has shaken up a lot of memories, such as the memory of a wave, the memory of a forest, the memory of a rainbow, the memory of stars, and the memory of darkness. When I get there, I'll probably find out it is nothing like that" (Daido Moriyama). What he found and captured on film is gathered in this lovely book, and is nothing like any other photography book on Hawaii. It is supremely worthy of what Janet Frame, the greatest New Zealand writer of the 20th century, once said: Every great island is an "is"-land rather than an "I"-land (as the word is pronounced). Who among great living photographers could possibly capture Hawaii in all its "is"-ness than Moriyama? As these photographs show, probably no other. One of the finest photography books of our time, this is a "must-have" title for Daido Moriyama collectors. This copy is one of a Limited Edition, indicated as such on the Front Limitation Page, and is very prominently and beautifully numbered and signed in black marker by Daido Moriyama. This title sold out shortly after publication and is now very highly collectible. This is one of extremely few copies still available online, is still in the publisher's original shrinkwrap, and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Copies will increase in value very rapidly, as all Moriyama titles do, and as this is a genuinely special addition to his oeuvre. A rare signed copy thus. 270 duotone plates. Five of Daido Moriyama's books were selected as among the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". The greatest living Japanese photographer. A flawless collectible copy.
