Ruscha, Ed (Artist); Ruscha, Edward (Full Name). "ABSOLUT RUSCHA": ABSOLUT VODKA OFFSET LITHOGRAPH. Paris, France: Absolut Vodka (Manufacturer) , 1988. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. As New.

Rare Ed Ruscha original art. Limited Edition of 200 signed copies. Should not be confused with the regular lithograph edition, whose number is not specified. There is no ISBN. A brilliant production by Ed Ruscha: Giant-size offset lithograph. The piece measures 33 X 45 inches. It is minimally larger framed in black brushed metal and durable plexiglas. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Housed in a sturdy, museum-quality handmade cardboard box. Without DJ, as issued. Presents "Absolut Ruscha", one of the finest creations commissioned by Absolut Vodka, whose advertising campaign is indisputably the greatest the world has ever seen. The typical Absolut Vodka advertisement is inspired by nothing more and nothing less than the shape of the bottle and how this angular shape captures contemporary life, in all its vivid yet poignant richness, diversity, and beauty. Absolut is the one commercial brand that has engaged, fascinated, and actually involved nearly every major Western writer, artist, photographer, composer, pop-culture trendsetter, and public icon of the last twenty-five years. Absolut utilizes and pays homage at the same time to the achievement of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Maurizio Cattelan, and Ken Scharf as well as Philip Glass, Susan Sontag, Philip Johnson, and the creators of "South Park", to name a handful from among the 2500 original works published thus far. There are three popular books on the subject and dozens of scholarly/cultural studies. No other advertising campaign has openly aspired to and attained the level of art while becoming the third biggest liquor brand in the world. Ed Ruscha's contribution is austerely elegant and Kafkaesque-sinister in its simplicity: Absolut's shadow is a human being shaped like the Absolut bottle. Except for the blue in the bottle, the piece is in black-and-white, like a classic Hollywood "film noir" image. With the possible exception of "Absolut Evidence" (a tiny fingerprint which has the Absolut bottle buried deep within it), it is the single most hauntingly beautiful creation in the campaign. "Good art should elicit a response of 'Huh? Wow! ' as opposed to 'Wow! Huh? ' " (Ed Ruscha). Every Ed Ruscha creation is a collectible work of art, not just a collectible. Characterized by the artist's wit and slippery genius, this is a "must-have" Ed Ruscha piece. This copy is one of a Limited Edition, and is very prominently and beautifully signed in pencil on recto by Ed Ruscha. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from the publisher, which contains all of the pertinent information about the Limited Edition. Ruscha did not sign most copies of the lithograph, and the COA specifies the number that he did, among other important edition points. "Absolut Ruscha" will be regarded, in our opinion, as the best in the entire series on artists, superior to all other contributions, including "Absolut Warhol". This is one of extremely few signed copies still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest living artists. A flawless collectible copy.
