"Though the artist no longer uses himself as a model, he continues to use the motifs of his earlier work. All male, Goicolea's subjects seem to have left their roots behind and matriculated in an environment which is otherworldly, replete with codes and rituals unfamiliar to the viewer. Often appearing in matching uniforms, everything from red-hooded sweatshirts to white underwear, they kiss under the moonlight, build forts in strange, idyllic environs, christen each other in shallow pools, and engage in mischief whose purpose is never quite clear" (Publisher's blurb). The models are beautiful white men, and while Goicolea no longer uses himself, his eerie story is familiar: The private rites and rituals that mark the transition to adulthood. Psychologists call the phenomenon "beehiving", where one's personal identity is not erased but reinforced and even defined by secrecy and uniformity. The men seal and consummate the bonds of love and friendship that they have formed with romantic lovemaking. Disturbing and compelling in its suggestiveness, Goicolea's private dream-world pulls us in precisely because it excludes us. A "must-have" title for Anthony Goicolea collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the title page by Anthony Goicolea. This title is now collectible. This is one of extremely few signed copies of the Limited Edition still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A very scarce signed copy thus. 100 color plates. One of the most brilliant living American artist/photographers. A flawless copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANTHONY GOICOLEA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1931885737. $100.00
