Tucker, Howie (Model/Subject) & Kundzicz, Walter (Champion Studios). HOWIE TUCKER: "COWBOY" NUDE COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS BY WALTER KUNDZICZ. New York City, NY: Champion Studio, 1988. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 2 pages. Fine.

Rare Howie Tucker and Walter Kundzicz/Champion Studios collectible set. Two (2) vintage color photographs of Howie Tucker, one of the most popular and most good-looking male-nude models discovered by Walter Kundzicz, in two of his full-frontal nude portraits. The photographs measure 3.5 X 5 inches and are presented "bleed". Champion Studio's earlier vintage prints were "pocket size" and had white borders, the widespread practice in the 1960's. They are encased in protective plastic sheets. From photographic as well as erotic points-of-view, the superior photograph is the one that shows Howie Tucker full-frontal nude yet fully dressed as a cowboy brandishing a gun, as only the intuitively imaginative Walter Kundzicz can pull it off. The cowboy as icon of masculinity has been "referenced" by many post-modern artists, most notably Richard Prince, who actually used Kudzicz's cowboy nudes for some of his appropriations. The other photograph is a Classical nude pose shot in a brown-dominant room (instead of outdoors), again in Kundzicz's distinctive style. The photographs belonged to the small surviving number of portraits in Walter Kundzicz's possession. The original prints were taken by Kundzicz's partner after Champion Studios dissolved, have completely vanished, and never been found. Howie Tucker is a darkly handsome version of the prototypical All-American male beauty. He anticipates by about two decades the model/stars of the reigning American photographer of the male nude, Bruce Weber. This is the genuine article, not just memorabilia, a "must-have" collectible set for Howie Tucker, Walter Kundzicz/Champion, and male erotic art photography collectors. These are original color prints, and they are titled and indicated as such on verso. This is the only such set of the prints available online, are eminently suitable for framing, and are in fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, pristine beauties. There are Howie Tucker/Walter Kundzicz prints and digital copies available online, but most of them have major flaws and have little or no collectible value. A rare set thus. One of the iconic American male-nude models of the 20th century. A fine collectible set.
