Struth, Thomas (Photographer); Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip (Subjects). THE NEW YORKER MAGAZINE ISSUE: THE 2011 STYLE SPECIAL WITH DOUBLESPREAD PORTRAIT OF QUEEN ELIZABETH AND PRINCE PHILIP. New York City, NY: The New Yorker Magazine, 2011. Softcover. First Edition/First Printing. 128 pages. Fine.

Scarce Thomas Struth, Queen Elizabeth, and New Yorker Magazine collectible item. September 26, 2011 Style Special Issue. Pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Contributions by some of the world's finest writers, journalists, poets, humorists, and graphic/cartoon artists. Printed on thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Unlike most books being published today, American magazines are still being printed in America; many of them are not only superior in quality, they will last in terms of production values. Without DJ, as issued. Presents a coup for The New Yorker Magazine: The very first appearance in published form of the portrait by Thomas Struth of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The portait was commissioned by the British Government as the last portrait of the historic portrait retrospective of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The latter will be held on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Other portraits in the retrospective were taken throughout the Queen's (very) long reign, and are a Who's Who of photography. The selection of Struth for the capstone-portrait is recognition of his standing in contemporary photography. A full-fledged essay, "Thomas Struth's Big Picture", by Janet Malcolm, describes in detail how the portrait was taken as well as Struth's photographic process in general. The Issue is devoted to contemporary styles in fashion and the culture-at-large: Lifestyle, cinema, theatre, and dance. Still, the feature article on Struth alone (plus his portrait of the Queen) is worth the price of entry. A "must-have" title for Thomas Struth collectors. This Issue is now collectible. This is one of very few copies still available online and has absolutely no flaws, a pristine beauty. A very scarce copy thus. Some of the world's finest living writers and artists. A flawless copy.
