Kesey, Ken (Author) & Babbs, Ken (Co-Author). LAST GO ROUND: A REAL WESTERN. New York City, NY: Viking Press, 1994. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 238 pages. As New/As New.

The author's "Western" novel. One of Ken Kesey's finest achievements. Limited Edition of 200 numbered and signed copies. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the regular trade edition. The Limited Edition sold out shortly after publication and is now rare. Presents Ken Kesey's "Last Go Round". "The year is 1911, the occasion is the Pendleton, Oregon Round-Up, and the cast of characters mixes historical and imagined personages. In this homage to a vanished genre of pulp fiction, young Tennessean Jonathan E. Lee Spain is on his way to Pendleton with his horse, Stonewall, when he meets Jackson Sundown, a Nez Perce of few words, and George Fletcher, a dapper and wildly talented black cowboy. Sundown and Fletcher are the world's top bronc-riders. Falling in with them, Spain is given a view of life on the rodeo circuit as experienced by its most talented but ultimately disenfranchised participants. Told via flashback by a much older and wiser Spain, who has since lost a hand in the ring, Kesey's tale portrays rodeo as a show mounted at the cost of both human and animal life" (Publishers Weekly). The novel is supplemented with a magnificent sixteen-page portfolio of vintage photographs, which show the novel's real-life characters, and are worth the price of entry. An absolute "must-have" title for Ken Kesey collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Edition, indicated as such in pencil on the Front Limitation/Half-Title Page, #129/200, and it is very boldly, beautifully, and flamboyantly (as was his certified custom, and as only he could pull it off) signed in a riot of colors by Ken Kesey. It is also very prominently and beautifully signed in green pen-marker by Ken Babbs. The signatures are directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page or bookplate. This title is a modern cult classic. This is one of very few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Kesey and Babbs also signed copies of the regular trade edition (which command as much as an incredible $2250), but the Limited Edition is surely the more collectible edition. Most copies available online are subsequent printings. A rare signed copy thus. Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" is widely regarded as a modern American classic. One of the cult phenomenon/writers of the 20th century. A flawless collectible copy. . ISBN 0670848832. $300.00
