Munro, Alice. OPEN SECRETS. New York City, NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1994. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 295 pages. Fine/Fine.

Rare Alice Munro collectible set. A rare signed copy of "Open Secrets" with a rare copy of "Carried Away" Limited Edition. The author's eighth collection of short stories. The first appearance of the title in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. Presents Alice Munro's eighth collection. "Munro is in a class of her own. No other writer working today is able to invest the humble story with more power, grace, or breadth" (Los Angeles Times). "She is a short story writer who re-imagined what a story can do" (Loorie Moore). With each new collection, Alice Munro demonstrates two things: How inexhaustible the short story form is and how inexhaustible her mastery of it is. As such, Alice Munro is regarded by critics and loyal readers alike as the greatest living writer of the short story in English: "Our Chekhov" (Cynthia Ozick). "Carried Away" is, of course, the lead story of "Open Secrets". To celebrate the latter's publication, Alice Munro's publisher issued the short story in a Limited Edition that is presented as a lovely, treasurable keepsake. An absolute "must-have" set for Alice Munro collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the title page by Alice Munro. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page or bookplate. It comes with a rare copy of "Carried Away" Limited Edition, which is also very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the Front Numbered Page by the author. Throughout her long career, Munro made very few public appearances, and is a reluctant signer at best. As such, most of her books are signed on a bookplate, which are much less desirable than copies signed on either the title page or tipped-in page. As far as we know, this is the only such signed set available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, pristine beauties. A rare signed set thus. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013. One of the greatest living writers. A fine collectible set. (SEE ALSO OTHER ALICE MUNRO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0679435751. $400.00
