Weber, Bruce (Photographer); Klein, Calvin (Designer) & Wahlberg, Mark (Model/Subject). CALVIN KLEIN MEN'S UNDERWEAR PRINT AD: MARK WAHLBERG ("MARKY MARK") . New York City, NY: Bruce Weber Productions, 1994. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. Fine.

Rare Bruce Weber, Calvin Klein, and Mark Wahlberg collectible item. An actual vintage copy of the now-classic Calvin Klein Men's Underwear advertisement. Precedes and should not be confused with contemporary, re-printed versions, whatever they may be. The advertisement itself, which ran brief-ly, is now rare. The heavily suggestive image of the American supermodel-turned-actor Mark Wahlberg ("Marky Mark") is the single most brazen version of the ground-breaking Calvin Klein advertising campaign that was launched to great fanfare and controversy (1984). It measures 10 X 11 inches and is printed on archival uncoated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. The advertisement shows Mark Wahlberg, then popularly known as "Marky Mark", cockily grabbing his genitals, which no other CK model has done before or since. The CK advertising campaign "had a seismic effect on America's social and cultural scene. Weber's photographs are part of the phenomenon they document. His advertising campaigns have come to stand for the acceptance of this imagery by the cultural mainstream. For those who can recall a time before it became acceptable for men to regard their underwear as fashion statements, Weber's images must count among the most revolutionary tools yet devised in the history of consumer manipulation" (The New York Times Magazine). Mark Wahlberg has gone on, of course, to have an immensely successful career as a Hollywood "A-List" actor, appearing in numerous films, notably "Boogie Nights" and "Crash", for which he received an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor. A genuine collectible, not just memorabilia, this is a "must-have" item for Bruce Weber, Calvin Klein, Mark Wahlberg, and erotic photography collectors. This is an actual vintage copy of the print advertisement, not a contemporary or digital copy, is now rare, and highly collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare copy thus. Two of the greatest American image-makers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER BRUCE WEBER AND CALVIN KLEIN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). $70.00
