Duerrenmatt, Friedrich (Translated by Eva H. Morreale).
THE QUARRY.
Greenwich, CN: New York Graphic Society, 1962. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 162 pages. Fine/Fine.
The author's first novel to be translated into English. Now considered a late-modern classic. The first appearance of the title in English. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Best-known for his great play, "The Visit", Friedrich Duerrenmatt is also an accomplished novelist of the first rank. An unabashed intellectual thriller which "stings the mind awake with its suspenseful narrative and biting dialogues on what constitutes ultimate good and evil". The author's work is being rediscovered: Another fine novel was the basis for the film, "The Pledge", directed by Sean Penn, with a tour-de-force performance by Jack Nicholson. "The Visit" was the basis of a fine film with Ingrid Bergman as the vindictive protagonist. A "must-have" title for Friedrich Duerrenmatt collectors. This title has been out-of-print for a very long time. Copies have become increasingly difficult to find. This is one of very few copies of the First English-language Edition still available online and is in unusually fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A very scarce copy thus. One of the finest writers of the 20th century. A fine copy. . $65.00
