Ishiguro, Kazuo. THE BURIED GIANT: THE DELUXE SLIPCASED EDITION. London, England: Faber & Faber, 2015. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 345 pages. As New.

The author's seventh novel. One of the most important literary events of our time. Deluxe Slipcased Edition of 200 numbered and signed copies. An additional five copies were produced for Kazuo Ishiguro to keep for himself. Should not be confused with all other editions, including the Waterstone's Special Edition, the First Hardcover Edition itself, which is British, and the American Edition, particularly copies that are signed on a tipped-in page in the case of the latter. As one has come to expect of British publishing, this is a magnificent production by Faber & Faber: Regular-sized volume format. Maroon boards with large round die-cut on the cover and gilt titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Text by Kazuo Ishiguro. Facsimile of two pages of the manuscript laid "en face" into their own matching maroon folder-portfolio with a gilt tree design on the cover. Green cloth slipcase with a gilt tree design. The endpapers depict a landscape painting. Printed on archival stock paper in the United Kingdom to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in the ultimate Deluxe Edition format, and after a ten-year hiatus, Kazuo Ishiguro's "The Buried Giant". This marks only the second Deluxe Edition of Ishiguro's work, the first being "Early Japanese Stories", which came with an original print by its artist/collaborator, published by a small fine press fifteen years ago, in 2000. "Completely astonishing. I can't think of another writer who keeps finding such new and radically unexpected ways of exploring - and deepening - his lifelong concerns. Which is a way of saying that I can't think of another writer who is so unswervingly serious as well as impeccable, stripping away every distraction to get to the core of things, as a Beckett might, and attaining in the end an almost unbearable intensity of emotional directness" (Pico Iyer). "The weirdest, riskiest, and most ambitious thing he has published in his celebrated 33-year career" (Alexandra Alter). "An original and remarkable genius" (The New York Times). An absolute "must-have" edition for Kazuo Ishiguro collectors. This copy is one of the Deluxe Slipcased Edition, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page. It is very prominently and beautifully signed in black fountain pen by Kazuo Ishiguro. It also comes with a stunningly beautiful folder-portfolio of two facsimile pages of the manuscript, both of them very prominently and beautifully signed in black fountain pen on recto by the author. This title will become a contemporary classic. This is one of very few copies of the Deluxe Slipcased Edition still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. Winner of the Whitbread Prize in 1986 for "An Artist of The Floating World". Winner of the Booker Prize in 1989 for "The Remains of The Day". One of the greatest living writers. A flawless collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER KAZUO ISHIGURO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). $600.00
