Weber, Bruce. THE CHOP SUEY CLUB: WHO TOUCHES THIS TOUCHES A MAN. Santa Fe, NM: Arena Editions, 1999. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. Unpaginated. Fine/Fine.

Collection of photographs devoted exclusively to one male subject. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Dimitri Levas: Regular-sized volume format. Mustard cloth boards with titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Bruce Weber. Text excerpts by Robert Frost, T. E. Lawrence, Bruce Springsteen, Wilfred Thesiger, and Walt Whitman. Printed on pristine-white, thick uncoated stock paper by EBS in Verona, Italy to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with green titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Bruce Weber's "The Chop Suey Club: Who Touches This Touches A Man". Literally hundreds of black-and-white and color photographs devoted to the former Midwest wrestler Peter Johnson that the photographer chanced upon and discovered on one of his peregrinations. Bruce Weber has often needed an inspiration to bring out the best in him as a photographer. This was the case with Jeff Aquilon and now, with Peter Johnson. Apart from his obsession with the erotic appeal of twins (two is better than one), Weber is at his best in capturing the All-American look (which Peter Johnson fully embodies) in all its beauty. One of BW's most influential collections, it has inspired innumerable "copycat" devotions and withstood the test of time, along with "Bear Pond" (1990) and "O Rio de Janeiro" (1986). An absolute "must-have" title for Bruce Weber collectors. This title is a contemporary erotic photography classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and despite its slight imperfection (one nick on top of the DJ) is still in especially fine condition: Every single page is clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine, un-touched beauty. The cloth boards are sharp, with no bumps at all. Please note: Copies available online command up to $500. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with duotone and color plates. Bruce Weber's "O Rio de Janeiro", the sexiest photography book ever published, was selected as one of the "Seminal Photography Books of the 20th Century" in the "Book of 101 Books". One of the finest American photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER BRUCE WEBER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1892041197. $200.00
