Pierson, Jack (Artist/Photographer) & Various Contributors. JACK PIERSON: TOMORROW'S MAN 3. Toronto, Canada: Bywater Brothers Limited, 2015. Softcover. First Edition/First Printing. Unpaginated. As New.

Artist Book. Collection of male nudes. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a softcover original in two Variant Covers only. This is the "Full-Frontal Male Nude" Cover Variant. It is now rare. A brilliant production by Jack Pierson and Roger Bywater: Regular-sized volume format. Glossy pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. The Series consciously mimics (and pays tribute to) the original "Tomorrow's Man" physique magazine of yore. Photographs and art by Jack Pierson. Text by various contributors. Printed on glossy stock paper in Canada to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Jack Pierson's "Tomorrow's Man" Volume 3. His most explicit male nudes ever. The design mimics the "Tomorrow's Man" physique magazine (which Andy Warhol, among many others, patiently and meticulously collected, discovering Joe Dallesandro in the process), with a brilliant twist: All of the models who have posed nude for Pierson are legitimate supermodels, of fashion and magazine pictorials, whereas the real Tomorrow's Man models were not. They were, in fact, often underground figures who were hustlers, even criminals (albeit handsome). It is visible proof, if it were needed, of mainstream acceptance of male nudity and overtly homoerotic content. The nudes are juxtaposed with "bleed" color photographs of Pierson's work in other media (still lifes, installations, sculptures, and abstract paintings) that are all beautifully reproduced. Being born to be an artist and to take photographs happened at a very young age in Pierson's case. He became an established artist with a loyal following in his early 20's, a rare occurrence in the ruthless and highly competitive art world. The artist/photographer's nudes evoke masculine beauty in a way that is redolent of memory, the passage of time, and ultimately, mortality. Nan Goldin and Jack Pierson are often compared to each other, and they are indeed kindred spirits. But while Goldin's images are powerfully raw and gritty, Pierson's are serene, contemplative, and lyrical even (or perhaps, especially) at their saddest. An absolute "must-have" title for Jack Pierson collectors. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the "Full-Frontal Male Nude" Cover Variant First Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: It should not be confused with the more common "Male Nude On The Beach" Cover Variant. A rare copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. One of the most brilliant American artist/photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER JACK PIERSON TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0993856756. $100.00
