Lang, Lang (Performer); Haydn, Joseph; Schumann, Robert; Chopin, Frederic (Composers). LANG LANG: LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL. New York City, NY: Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Classics Group, 2003. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 2 pages. Fine.

Rare Lang Lang collectible item. A pristine copy of the historic 2003 Deutsche Grammophon Compact Disc (CD) live recording of his Carnegie Hall Debut on November 7, 2003 at the age of 21, signed by Lang Lang. The very first release on CD. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent releases, particularly the 2008 CD/DVD release, issued five years later. Distributed in the United States by Universal Classics Group as the original two-CD set that sold out shortly after release. The CD set is now scarce. Presents Lang Lang's "Live At Carnegie Hall". Rousing and at the same time, interpretatively sensitive performances by the American pianist at the beginning of his phenomenal career. Features fiendishly difficult, powerhouse works by (in order) : Robert Schumann, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Tan Dun, Frederic Chopin, and Franz Liszt, performed with bravura, power, and grace. The thunderous audience response and encores are included. "A dazzling recital. Lang Lang's virtuosity is frightening: The Liszt 'Reminiscenses du Don Juan' is a showpiece when played 'normally'. Here, Lang plays it to its extremes, with soft passages amazingly soft and subtly delineated and the bigger moments heaven-thundering. It is played so fast, and so accurately (a cascade of notes in the middle sounds like waterfall), that it leaves the listener breathless. Surely just what Liszt wanted. In the Haydn sonata, Lang's classical line is impeccable, but he's not afraid to embellish occasionally. The Schumann is dreamy and hushed; Schubert's 'Wanderer' Fantasy, a crowd-pleaser, is just that: Beautifully played, familiar yet fresh. An encore, with Lang's father playing a two-string fiddle called the erhu, is a fascinating look into Eastern music" (Robert Levine). An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Lang Lang collectors. This copy of the Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Classics Group CD of "Live At Carnegie Hall" is very boldly, elaborately, and beautifully signed in black pen-marker (in Chinese characters) in front by Lang Lang. It is signed directly on the cover itself. Lang's signature is the fullest and most beautiful we have ever seen: Big, brash, brilliant. This title is a historic CD classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Distributed in the United States by Universal Classics Group as a two-CD set (that sold out shortly after release), this is the very first release. Should NOT be confused with the 2008 CD/DVD release, issued five years later. Lang Lang's rock-star status has exponentially increased the demand for signings, forcing the artist to drastically abbreviate his signature in later - and much more common - specimens. This is a vintage signature, and spectacular as such. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest pianists of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO LEIF OVE ANDSNES, MAURIZIO POLLINI, ARCADI VOLODOS, EVGENY KISSIN, YUNDI, JON NAKAMATSU, JEAN-YVES THIBAUDET, AND LARS VOGT TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). $70.00
