Warhol, Andy. ANDY WARHOL'S CHILDREN'S BOOK. Zurich, Switzerland: Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, 1983. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 12 pages. Fine.

The artist's children's book, presented as an Artist Book. Or more accurately: Artist Book, presented as a children's book. One of Andy Warhol's most beautiful creations. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. Distributed mainly in Switzerland by his legendary European gallery (Bruno Bischofberger), none of the copies was commercially sold in the United States. The Artist Book is now rare. A brilliant production by Andy Warhol: Small-size volume format. Thick cardboard covers with red-orange cloth spine, as issued. Including the front and back covers, there are six "back-to-back" cardboard pages, or twelve individual pages in all. Art by Andy Warhol. There is no text. Printed on thick, archival cardboard stock paper in Switzerland to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect, capturing the nitty-gritty and nuance of the silkscreen process closely identified with Warhol's oeuvre. Without DJ, as issued. Presents "Andy Warhol's Children's Book". One of his less-well-known Artist Books, which is a pity because it is one of his gems. With its emphasis on animals - that children can relate and respond to, to judge by their abundance in children's books - it anticipates the artist's "Vanishing Animals" Series (1986), one of Warhol's last major projects before his untimely and sudden death. An absolute "must-have" title for Andy Warhol collectors. This Artist Book is a late-modern classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a beauty. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws yet command as much as $700 (and up) because of the book's rarity. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. 12 "back-to-back", full-page color plates. One of the greatest artists of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANDY WARHOL TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
