Beddard, Phil (Editor). NOCTURNAL. London, England: Booth-Clibborn Editions, 1998. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. Unpaginated. Fine/Fine.

Collection of images of the global "night life". A splendid production by Booth-Clibborn Editions: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial hard boards, as issued. Contributions by various artists, graphic designers, writers, and photographers. In publisher's original glassine DJ with white titles on the cover and flaps, as issued. Presents the work of both ordinary, anonymous private citizens as well as some of the world's most well-known photographers, journalists, writers, advertising copywriters, art directors, and independent artists on the inexhaustibly erotic and fascinating subject of what people do at night, as seen from photographs as well as mass-media materials: Apart from going out, having a good time, and having sex, it would appear, not much else. Presented as a torrent of images without any accompanying commentary, the editor, Phil Beddard, obviously came to the conclusion that the pictures, words, and sundry other images, often organized in messy but witty collages, speak volumes about the subject. The best parts of the book are the "found" images, such as the one about a security guard named John Wayne, who happily discovers another side of himself that he was previously unaware of. His discovery leads to a life-altering situation. Similarly humorous and tongue-in-cheek personals, billboards, and excerpts from magazine articles and "night life" guides abound in this unusual volume. A fascinating, hilarious guide. This is an Import title and has been out-of-print for some time. Copies are often missing the glassine DJ. This copy is in fine condition; Clean, crisp, and bright. A scarce copy thus. Some of the finest living photographers, artists, and writers. A fine copy. . ISBN 3927258911. $45.00
