Artist Book. One of the most stunningly beautiful photography books of the year 2002. Limited Edition of 500 copies. A sumptuous production by Terri Weifenbach and John Gossage: Oversize-volume format. A very tall and slim book. Green ribbed hard boards with tipped-in original print, black titles on the cover and black linen cloth spine, as issued. Color photographs by Terri Weifenbach. Black-and-white photographs by John Gossage. Each copy has an original color print by Terri Weifenbach pasted on the front cover. There are four variant prints in all. Introduction, "Duchamp Was Wrong", by John Gossage. Printed on thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents the sublime, contrapuntal juxtaposition of Terri Weifenbach's color photographs with John Gossage's black-and-white pictures. The husband-and-wife team are embarked on an unusual project: To present their respective and differing "interpretations" of the same place. "It would be impossible to overstate the beauty of this book as it would be to overstate Weifenbach's embrace of the beautiful in her work. She moves calmly and deliberately among the gardens and roads of the tiny Italian town she has taken as subject. Then along comes Mr. Gossage, her complete photographic antithesis. The two photographers appear, he states in the Introduction, 'it would seem, and in the extreme, to not hold the same views'. The counterpoint provided by Gossage's rich black-and-white 'clues' are perfectly chosen, commenting on Weifenbach's rich color images" (Darius Himes). "We have given up the fiction that we are telling the complete truth about what we photograph. This book, though, is a single story, the place where things are resolved. What I am suggesting is that each body of work stands on its own thought while commenting on its companion. Every photograph is both statement and caption. I speak to Terri's work as she speaks to mine. We have undermined each other's work to our mutual benefit. We have formed a hybrid single view, if you will" (John Gossage). The articulate Gossage concludes that the viewer completes the picture. Perhaps it is more apt to say that the viewer wins in the end, by "reconciling" the opposing views, a word that the photographers use to refer to what one sees (which is apparent and visible) and what one thinks of it (which is not readily apparent or visible). An exquisite and rewarding dialogue between soul-mates. A "must-have" title for Terri Weifenbach and John Gossage collectors. This copy is prominently and beautifully signed in pencil on the Dedication Page by Terri Weifenbach and John Gossage. This title has been out-of-print for some time. This is one of very few signed copies still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. 33 color, 53 duotone plates, 1 original color print. Terri Weifenbach's "In Your Dreams" and two of John Gossage's books were selected as among the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". Two of the finest living photographers. A flawless collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER TERRI WEIFENBACH AND JOHN GOSSAGE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). $400.00
