Artist Book. The 28th title in the now-legendary "One Picture Book" Series by Nazraeli Press, one of the most superb ongoing projects of contemporary art photography. Limited Edition of 500 numbered and signed copies. Accompanied by one tipped-in, original print by the artist/photographer (hence the Series' name). An elegant production by Chris Pichler: Small-size volume format. Titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Martin Parr. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents the photographer's companion volume to his immensely successful "7 Communist Still Lifes", one of the best titles in the One-Picture Book Series. "Martin Parr's second contribution takes us to Colombo, Kandy, and Newara Eliya, Sri Lanka. This colorful little book shows some of the lighter sides of colonialism-gone-awry" (Publisher's blurb). The color print was utilized by the New Yorker Magazine as the accompanying image to a short story by the British writer Tessa Hadley, one of the finest living writers. Parr is an ironist (who is often mistaken for being a satirist) whose oblique, indirect, and witty approach leaves a strong aftertaste. It is not possible to understand the art and photography of our time without taking stock of Martin Parr's work and achievement. A neat triumph, this is a "must-have" title for Martin Parr collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Edition, indicated as such in pen on the Back Limitation Page. It comes with a lovely color print that is very prominently and beautifully signed in black fountain pen on verso by Martin Parr. This title sold out before publication and is now highly collectible. This is one of very few copies still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. 6 color plates, 1 original print. The most important and most influential living British photographer. A flawless collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ONE PICTURE BOOK AND MARTIN PARR TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1590051335. $150.00
