Exhibition catalog. Published in an extremely small and limited print run as a paperback original only. Many copies were discarded because of a publishing flaw. An austerely elegant production by Briggs Robinson Gallery: Small-sized volume format. Silver softcovers with black titles on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Wouter Deruytter. Introduction by John Wood. Biography appended at the end. Printed on thick glossy stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at the Briggs Robinson Gallery New York from September 10 through October 15, 2005. Presents the artist/photographer's collection of portrait-photographs of the Native-American tribe known as The Crow Warriors. An important historical fact about the Crow tribe is that they considered the other tribes as their enemies, not the whites. The Crow fought the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho "Indians" to fend off repeated attempts to seize their land, and were allies of the ill-fated Colonel George Custer and his men, who were completely annihilated in a ferocious encounter by a united force of Native-American tribes. Wouter Deruytter clearly sees the Crow as physically and spiritually, the most beautiful Native Americans: Handsome, proud, chiseled, noble. "A frank, honest, unsentimental, unromantic yet moving portrayal. The Crow Warriors, like his cowboys, are not trying to cultivate antique personae for themselves. They don't need to. They already possess ancient and fabled ones, and have died trying to preserve them" (John Wood). A stunning collection, worthy of being seen as the companion volume to his "Cowboy Code" collection. This copy is very boldly and elaborately signed, placed, and dated (in the year of publication) in blue pen by the artist/photographer: "Wouter Deruytter NYC 2005". It is also very beautifully signed in black fountain pen by John Wood. This title has had very limited distribution. This is the only copy available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A very scarce signed copy thus. 32 plates. One of the most brilliant living artist/photographers. A flawless copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER WOUTER DERUYTTER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). $100.00
