Newton, Helmut (Photographer) & Newton, June (Designer).
HELMUT NEWTON'S ILLUSTRATED NUMBER 2: PICTURES FROM AN EXHIBITION.
Munich, Germany: Schirmer / Mosel Verlag, 1995. Softcover. First Edition/First Printing. 31 pages. As New.
Rare portfolio of photographic reproductions. The second installment in the Series created by the photographer in the last decade of his life, it is the most rare title in the series. The concept is arresting: Each volume stands on its own, is ostensibly a "story" told entirely in Newton's now-classic pictures. Each story is about the very thin line between fantasy and reality. This one has a Classical theme: "Pictures from an Exhibition". A dazzling production by June Newton: Oversize-volume format, in a very large, tabloid-style at 16 x 12 inches. Pictorial softcovers with black titles on cover, as issued. Photographs by Helmut Newton. There is no text. Photographic credits appended at the beginning. Printed on thick coated stock paper in Berlin, Germany to the very highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents some of the photographer's finest and most representative female nudes, as personally selected by him and produced by his wife, June Newton. Some of the photographs originally appeared in European and American fashion and lifestyle magazines such as The Conde Nast Publications U. S. & Europe, Stern Hamburg, Linea Italiana Milan, Elle Paris, Egoiste Paris, Votre Beaute Paris, and Vogue Magazine, that is to say, all of the leading fashion and lifestyle magazines in the Western world. Newton created a world of irresistible glamor, sublime mystique, and decadent sensuality whether he was shooting for his own enjoyment or on assignment for Yves Saint Laurent, Ungaro, Jean Patou, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Guy Laroche, Nina Ricci, Karl Lagerfeld, and Calvin Klein, among others. In Helmut Newton's ideal world, there would be only women, and himself to make love to them with his camera. Helmut Newton died of a violent heart attack while driving his car in Hollywood, a place that he cherished and loved, in 2004. A "must-have" memorabilia item. This is an Import title, was not commercially distributed in the United States, and has been out-of-print for a long time. This is one of very few copies still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Most available copies have major flaws. A rare copy thus. One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. A flawless collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER HELMUT NEWTON TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 3888142482. $150.00
