Hoeg, Peter (Translated by Barbara Haveland). THE WOMAN AND THE APE. New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1996. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. 261 pages. As New/As New.

The author's fourth novel. The first appearance of the title in English. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. The novel caused quite a stir when it first appeared because of the bestiality suggested in the title and pursued in the novel itself. Peter Hoeg is a restless writer who tries, to his credit, to go beyond his previous work. One gets the feeling that he has made it his mission as a writer to start over with every new work rather than repeat his previous successes, notably "Smilla's Sense of Snow". Hoeg's talent is to adopt a particular genre and then reinvent it to serve his own aims as a highly experimental and adventurous writer. Only Jonathan Lethem, among American writers, comes to mind, as having the same degree of formal consciousness and inventiveness. A "must-have" title for Peter Hoeg collectors. This title has been out-of-print as a hardcover for a very long time. This is one of few copies of the First English-language Edition still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A scarce copy thus. One of the most talented living writers. A flawless copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER PETER HOEG TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0374292035. $25.00
